Tyntesfield

Wraxhall, Bristol BS48 1NX

Tyntesfield is a spectacular Victorian Gothic Revival house with beautiful gardens and parkland originally built as a family home.  The drawing room was originally designed by Crace but was redecorated during the Edwardian period.  When we first opened our doors here at Uphill Manor, Craig spoke to one of their guides to ask if they could please not tell their visitors that we had the complete example of Crace’s work here, we did not want to be offering guided tours on a Sunday afternoon!

Weston-super-Mare Beach

Seafront, Weston super Mare

BS23 1BE

Weston’s famous sandy beach with plenty to keep families amused.  The Grand Pier, the famous Weston donkeys and a variety of cafes.  Weston is renowned for the huge difference between high and low tide, so depending on the time of the year you may not have access to the water for a long period of the day – hence the rather unkind nickname of ‘Weston super Mud’. Marine Lake does, however, address this problem with a breakwater, a small sandy beach and safe saltwater swimming and the benefit of being close to several restaurants and cafes.

At the very north end of the seafront lies the long disused Birnbeck Pier, a Grade 11*listed Pier,  which is now at the beginning of a huge restoration project to include a new Lifeboat Station.

Uphill Beach

Uphill, Weston super Mare

BS23 4XY

A long sandy beach with lovely dunes and gorse forming the quiet end of the Weston super Mare main beach.  Uphill Beach can be reached on foot via the public footpath directly opposite our entrance across Weston Gold Links.  The Boat House Café is situation in the boat yard.  There are two decent pubs within walking distance of the beach and Uphill Manor: The Ship Inn and The Dolphin, both serving basic pub food..  The boat yard also signifies the start of the Mendip Way and there are some very interesting flat walks through the nature reserve.  For the more energetic, the old Uphill Church is at the top of the hill, offering wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.
